It appears that the Republican welcome wagon is out for Jim Strickland, a past Shelby County Democratic Party Chairman, according to a recent email from the local GOP party. Jim your elephant tie clip is in the mail and welcome aboard.
Here is the recent Shelby County GOP announcement:
"The results are in! After many hard fought months, the final results for the Memphis city municipal elections are in and the Shelby County Republican Party has once again proven to be a force to be reckoned with in city government.
While many believed that our best days were behind us, through the hard work of volunteers like yourself, and a terrific group of candidates, we have maintained our presence on the Memphis City Council once again.
Last night, Bill Boyd won a decisive victory in District 2 against a credible and very well respected opponent, Brian Stephens. In District 1, Harold Collins also won in convincing fashion. With the previous winners, Scott McCormick, Reid Hedgpeth, and Jim Strickland, our party ballot proved to be instrumental in electing this fine group to office.
Congratulations to all of our winners and on behalf of each of them, I thank you for your hard work and dedication to them and our party. As the holidays approach, let's catch our breath, spend time with family and friends, and get rested up for 2008. We have much work to do! God Bless you and we'll see you on the campaign trail."
